In January, we announced a new hackathon in partnership with our friends at DEV. The Hack the Planet contest. 🌍
This hackathon was unlike anything DEV has co-hosted in the past. Participants were challenged to use New Relic's observability software to build applications that included monitoring features for the good of the planet. While one "random" submission category allowed participants to create whatever they wanted, two out of three submission categories were centered around climate change and the help that software can provide in the fight to save our planet.
This challenge was also unique because participants were asked to submit their projects outside of DEV. Instead, projects were posted here on New Relic's new Forem-built community, The Relicans. If you’re visiting this post from DEV today, The Relicans is a space for software developers of all levels to connect with one another and be in direct contact with the New Relic team. If you’re already part of the community, we’re so happy you’re here!
Finally, Hack the Planet was also distinct due to the sheer size of our cash prize package. New Relic doubled the cash prize midway through for a total of $20,000 in cash prizes!
We thank all of you for working with this exciting new hackathon format and becoming a member of a new community in the process. ❤️
Without further ado, let's meet the Grand Prize winners of the New Relic x DEV "Hack the Planet" contest!

To everyone who submitted a project for this hackathon, please pat yourselves on the back. You've created an app dedicated to saving the planet and we've planted a bunch of trees together in the process. It's efforts like these that help us all see the larger value of software development in the world we live in ❤️
